Polar Bear Conservation Efforts
Polar bears are facing an increasingly perilous situation, with 5 of the 19 polar bear subpopulations in decline.
Polar bears are particularly vulnerable because of the threat to their habitat caused by global warming. As pollution causes the global climate to steadily heat up, this causes the ice in the arctic regions to melt. This reduction in sea ice makes access to prey increasingly difficult for the polar bear and consequently they are unable to store up enough weight to see them through the summer months.

We can all help in the campaign to slow global warming by reducing our negative impact on the environment – be it through using public transport or conserving energy at home by using energy efficient light bulbs, or ensuring appliances are off and not on standby.
These small changes will add up to make a big difference. Indeed, one of WWF’s key aims is to raise awareness regarding the threats of climate change faced by all.
By adopting a polar bear today, you will be specifically helping the polar bear’s natural habitat. The WWF utilises your contribution by helping to conserve the Arctic region’s rich biodiversity alongside working towards maintaining a healthy Arctic environment and wildlife population.
